Description
Here at Motodrome, we love classic French cars, and the Citroen CX, regarded as the last ‘proper’ big Citroen, is one of our favourites.
So we offer this rather lovely 1985 CX25 Prestige Automatic.
The LWB ‘prestige’ body gives massive rear legroom (it’s also known as the Presidential spec) and, to us, makes them look even better.
With it’s high spec, wonderful looks, and slightly bonkers interior, it represents peak Citroen – not something you can say about today’s bland offerings.
This one is finished in metallic Gold, with the correct brown vinyl roof, and full beige leather interior.
It’s fully loaded. Obviously it has the famed Hydropneumatic suspension and brakes, and Diravi power steering, but also automatic transmission, alloy wheels (shod with a matching set of Vredestein tyres), rear spoiler, air conditioning, electric windows, central locking, rear passenger footrests, and rear sunblinds.
This one, an original UK RHD example, was first registered to a Mr Keegan in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It seems to have stayed in NI until 2016, when it came to the mainland, and has been in one enthusiast family ownership since.
We have a good chunk of history for the car, back to the original dealer pack including the original stamped service book and handbooks, and the ‘anti corrosion guarantee’ card. The service book is stamped 18 times to 74198 miles, all bar the last 2 by Citroen main dealers.
Since it came to the mainland, it’s largely been maintained by the usual specialists such as Andrew Brodie and Chevronics.
Further history includes the original green Northern Ireland logbook, and Northern Ireland vehicle test certificates 1991-2016
Once it arrived on the mainland, it was owned by the last owner’s late father. In 2016, he commissioned a light body restoration and a full repaint from the original dark grey to the current gold, which meshes perfectly with the beige interior and the vinyl roof.
We have a good selection of proper (ie not digital) photos of the car beforehand, and it certainly needed a repaint as the original paint was peeling badly from the bonnet and front wings.
We also have proper photos of the restoration and repaint process, and more of when it first went back on the road. Over a decade later, it still looks really smart.
It has a relatively low odometer reading of 87000 miles, which seems to be backed up by the history we hold.
Whilst it’s now MOT and tax exempt, it comes with MOT to October 2027.
It looks fantastic, and drives really well with a very relaxed, long legged style, helped by the automatic gearbox. And it has the sort of ride quality that Citroen were famous for. So, tons of gallic charm.
On our own website, you’ll find our usual 2 videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description.
