Description

motodrome are pleased to offer this lovely MG B GT Mark 1 with overdrive, finished in Red with Red leather interior piped in cream

The Pininfarina – designed MGB GT made its debut at the London Motor Show in October 1965, and was an instant success. This is one of the later Mark 1’s, first UK registered 20/05/1967, and hence one of the first fitted with reversing lights.

This one is fitted with overdrive, chrome wire wheels, and a nice Webasto full length sunroof which, together with it being a desirable Mark 1,for us, makes it the best specification for any B GT.

It’s further fitted with an alternator conversion, Spax adjustable shock absorbers, polybushed suspension, electronic ignition, kenlowe fan, and stainless exhaust.

The last owner has had this fine example since 2015, and in 2025 submitted it to his local MG specialist to prepare it for continental touring. Due to his subsequent ill-health, this didn’t happen, but the work carried out was very extensive, and included
New starter motor
New fuse box
New alternator
Engine removed for inspection and to cure oil leaks, with new rear main seal, flywheel, and new clutch fitted
New front shocks
New hoses
Both carburettors rebuilt
Full service including all underside oils checked and changed where necessary, and grease points done.

All the above is documented, and it’s seen very light use and mileage since.

Delving further back into the extensive history file, we find it had a colour change from Blue to Red in 1986, bills for a very extensive body and interior restoration in 1989/90 (all the usual areas including inner/outer sills, castle sections, splash panels, wings etc etc) and new interior, reconditioned gearbox in 1992, and a full recon engine fitted in 1994 at 49268m – both of these by an MG specialist.

Previous owner had it repainted again in 2016, and had the Webasto sunroof fitted then too.

The current odometer reading is 68000 miles which tallies with the extensive history post-restoration, but there is an old MOT from 1986 showing 8665 miles, so unless it was an amazingly low mileage car at that time, the current indicated mileage should probably be taken with a pinch of salt. But we think it’s likely correct that it’s covered around 19000 miles on the engine.

It will come with our usual 6 month warranty on sale.

It’s a rare opportunity to acquire a properly sorted example of the sought-after early B GT, that needs nothing except a good home
