Description
Here at Motodrome, we’ve a real soft spot for classic Americana, , and so we’re pleased to offer this fantastic 1948 Chevrolet Stylemaster Sedan Delivery 383cu in Restomod.
Restomod? Hot Rod? Streetrod? Custom car? Call it what you want, but it’s pretty special whichever name you give it.
The Fleetmaster or Stylemaster, with their curvaceous bodywork and magnificent art deco inspired grille, are a popular choice for modifying stateside, but rare in the UK.
But the 'Sedan Delivery' van version is rare everywhere, as most were, naturally, supplied to tradesmen and delivery companies, and consequently were ragged to death with few surviving.
This one was found as a standard example in Saskatchewan Canada (where road salt wasn’t used), and hence the body was very-well preserved, with minimal rust, but quite a lot of the inevitable dents that a commercial vehicle picks up. We’re told it retains all it’s original sheet metal.
Beautifully built stateside over a 10-year period and completed in 2017, and finished in classic green over black (which was a factory option back in the day) it would make an excellent promotional vehicle for any business. It’s already featured in a video for the Fender Guitar centre, and we’ve left the stickers on.
Mechanical spec includes
Chevy small block 350 V8 engine, bored 0.30” over, with Eagle 6in conrods, speedpro pistons, 4-bolt crank, Dart hi-po heads, high rise 4 barrel manifold, howard roller cam, Scorpion roller rockers, high-volume oil pump, Holley 650 street avenger 4-barrel carb, Sanderson headers, Magnaflow exhaust, Streetfire HEI distributior. So all the right bits. The engine has now done just under 1500 miles, reputedly produces approx. 450bhp, starts on the button, and sounds amazing.
Aluminium radiator, electric fan, electric fuel pump.
Reconditioned Muncie 4-speed manual gearbox with uprated Ram clutch, Hurst competition shifter, uprated propshaft.
Chassis Engineering front end with rack and pinion steering, power disc brakes, and stabiliser bars
10-bolt Positraction rear axle and rear suspension again by Chassis Engineering.
Fully rewired to modern standards
Further upgrades include American Racing wheels, VintageAir air conditioning, electric front windows, and a nicely trimmed interior with seats from a GMC Envoy, wood panelling in the back, LED lighting inside, and lots of sound deadening material.
The external door handles were removed and electric door poppers installed.
Very powerful stereo system
Odometer reading 1500m, which relates to it’s mileage since build. We have copious notes on the build (which reputedly cost over 50000 dollars) in the reasonably large history file.
It came to the UK in 2021 and is fully registered here
Overall, it’s simply magnificent and guaranteed to start a conversation wherever you park her up.
On our own website, you'll find our usual 2 videos – a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description.
