Description

motodrome offer this iconic 1998 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Type R version 4.

This example, a genuine Type R, was imported into the UK when virtually new in 1998, fully SVA/IVA tested and UK registered
Somewhat rare these days in that a) it's completely original and unmessed about with - no big turbo, dump valve, or any of that 'Max Power' nonsense - with the exception of a discreet steering column mounted boost gauge, it's exactly as it left the factory.
It seems to have been loved all it's life by owners who knew it's significance and collectability and we can't find any evidence of previous restoration etc. Something of a unicorn, then. Owners have even resisted the temptation to fit a larger exhaust – the one fitted is the original type with STi stamped into the tailcone.

As ever, based on the desirable 2-door shell, and with the bodykit, rear spoiler, and STi interior that these come with.

Fitted with the correct 5-speed close ratio gearbox and DCCD, the correct intercooler water spray, and, correctly, no ABS.

This one also has air conditioning, which seems to be blowing cold.

Fitted with the usual Sigma alarm/immobiliser system linked to the central locking, but the documentation would indicate that it’s also fitted with a tracker. If so, this will require reactivation if you want to use it.

V5 shows 3 previous keepers, and we know it had one long-term owner 1998-2021

Odometer reading just 67000 miles, and comes with MOT’s back to it’s first, in 2001

Last serviced 14/01/26

Comes with MOT to January 2027

I can confirm it drives superbly, with amazing power and torque, and retains that signature Subaru sound that’s so addictive. Under a gentleman’s agreement between Japanese manufacturers, officially they produced 280bhp in factory spec. But I think, having driven this one, that’s a slightly conservative figure, shall we say.

On our own website, you’ll find our usual two videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description.
