EXTERIOR
A real rarity, this stunning Vauxhall Astra saloon has covered just 14,814 miles from new and remains in exceptional original condition throughout. Finished in factory optional Nautilus metallic pearlescent paint, (Code 14L), the original paintwork is simply outstanding with a deep uniform shine throughout. The body panels are pin straight with no dings or noteworthy damage and common troublesome areas such as wheel arches and sills are pristine. Inspection of the impeccable underside will further cement this garaged example’s utterly cosseted existence. Trim sections, registration etched glass and Carello headlamps are perfectly preserved. Supplying dealer branded number plates and tax disc holder remain fitted. A remarkable example in all respects, it is difficult to imagine a better Mk3 Astra Saloon existing!
INTERIOR
An often overused descriptive, ‘time warp’, yet entirely justified in this instance. The interior is reminiscent of a 1997 showroom example. This LS specification model features Rhine Trim in Grey, (Code 441), with matching door trim and colour scheme carpets. The upholstery is spotlessly clean with no wear visible and the door cards show none of the common shrinkage. The carpets remain pristine having been protected from new by genuine Astra tailored carpet mats. The main touch points such as the steering wheel and gear knob retain the surface grain often worn shiny smooth and even the gear stick gaiter is not perished, almost unheard of for a 90’s Vauxhall! All controls and functions operate perfectly including the original stereo, display and factory optional air conditioning. Hugely nostalgic and impeccably preserved ready for retro outings!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Vauxhalls robust four-cylinder eight valve engine is renowned for longevity and ease of maintenance. This 1.6i variant produces 74bhp and 128Nm maximum torque to achieve a top speed of 104mph and 0-60mph in 13.5 seconds. Having covered just 14,814 miles and benefitting from meticulous maintenance, most recently a major service in October 2026, the car runs and performs beautifully. The engine bay is exceptionally clean with all plates and stickers intact and is suitable for bonnet up exhibiting. The 5 speed manual transmission is light and precise.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The LS specification 15in alloy wheels with locking centre caps are in fantastic order with no kerb damage and minor aging. Matching brand 195/55 R15 retain plenty of tread and the unused spare alloy wheel is housed in the cavernous boot area which is pristine with jack and brace present. The braking system performs exactly as it should with all maintenance up to date.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 18th September 1997 by Vauxhall main dealership, Hartwell Sheffield, this exceptional example is a very late Mk3 Astra on a R registration. Having covered a warranted 14,814 miles from new with just two owners, the first until 2024, the car has been preserved in amazing condition throughout. Despite the low mileage, there are 19 stamps in the original service book, 18 of which are the supplying Vauxhall main dealer! The most recent entry is a major service in October 2026 which also included a cambelt change. The previous keeper part-exchanged the car against a new Astra at Pentagon Vauxhall in Nottingham whereby it was subsequently offered to KGF Classic Cars. We are thrilled to report that the car entirely meets the exceptionally high standards required for our impeccable retail inventory and physical inspection is recommended to appreciate just how incredible this Astra is.
The black leather A5 wallet holds all handbooks, radio guides and dealer literature as well as the fully stamped service booklet. Both the main torch key, (working), and spare key are present and the file also includes an Astra range sales brochure. The Mk3 Astra was a common sight but even at peak numbers the saloon was a rare specimen! Now it is virtually extinct and this might possibly be the best in existence.
