Description

FOR SALE
An outstanding UK Volkswagen Beetle 1300 with three owners and 35,980 miles.

EQUIPMENT
Chrome window trim, chrome bumpers, chrome wheel covers, running boards, horn pad with Wolfsburg crest, hazard lights, dash illumination adjustment, interior light, collapsible steering column, fuel gauge, assist straps, headlight flasher, two-speed fresh air blower, bezel vents, sill vents, glove box, driver’s door pocket, twin sunvisors, grab handle, coat hooks. Accessories: Nearside rear seat belt, Blaupunkt Denver 412 DAB stereo with Bluetooth and remote, perforated leatherette steering wheel cover, carpet mats, electric windscreen washer.

EXTERIOR
The unspoilt and preserved nature of this charming VW Beetle 1300 Deluxe is a dream for the aficionados of the standard Beetle. Finished in Volkswagen Kasan Red/Kasanrot, (Code L30B), the glossy finish to the paintwork is incredible with barely any markings worthy of mention. The body panels are damage free with no dings and uniformly even, while the doors shut with a reassuring thud. Originality seekers will delight at the original number plates, VW etched glass and factory wax injection plugs in the door apertures. Even the octane sticker to the inside of the petrol flap remains fitted! All chrome bumpers and trim pieces are intact and boast a brilliant shine. Factory fitted Hella headlamps and Hella rear lamps are in perfect condition along with all trim and rubbers. The underside is excellent and has never been welded, almost unheard of for a Beetle! A visually pleasing example of a motoring hero.

INTERIOR
The original black leatherette interior is spotless with all seats and matching door cards fully intact and remarkably free from wear. The factory fitted padded steering wheel with Wolfsburg crest is pristine having been protected from new with a perforated leatherette steering wheel cover. All controls and switchgear are fully functioning and the factory sticker to the inner glovebox lid remains. The headlining is clean, fully intact with no tears and shows no discolouration to the edges. The front luggage compartment still has the factory plate and stickers and houses the spare wheel still with the pneumatic washer system but now bypassed in favour of a more effective electric washer pump. A Blaupunkt Denver 412 DAB stereo with Bluetooth has been discreetly installed. A superb place to sit and enjoy air-cooled motoring at its very best!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The matching numbers standard air-cooled rear mounted engine produces 52bhp from its 1285cc displacement enabling a top speed of 78mph with the unmistakable Beetle engine note delightfully pronounced but completely unobtrusive. The engine bay is amazingly clean with engine number clearly visible. Even the now somewhat primitive Volkswagen diagnostics plug remains fitted! The fully synchronized 4-speed gearbox works perfectly and is easy to use once familiarised. The car runs and performs brilliantly and was last serviced in August 2026.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original pressed steel wheels are in excellent condition and dressed in chrome half wheel covers which are original items rather than inferior aftermarket fitment and show only very light tarnishing. Five expensive replacement Continental Contact 165/80 R15 tyres have covered less than 1000 miles apart from the spare which has never been used. The dual circuit drums front and rear operate perfectly with new rear brake shoes fitted in August 2026 to deliver strong stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 1st March 1972, the supplying Volkswagen Main Dealer was Kingsthorpe Garage in Northampton, a photo of which is in the history file. This incredible VW Beetle 1300 Deluxe has covered a warranted 35,980 miles from new, remarkably with only three long-term owners! First owner, Mr Leech, cherished the car for 28 years and neatly filed and numbered every MOT certificate and vehicle check sheet until selling the car in February 2000 with 30,667 miles. The second owner Mr O’Driscoll, a wealthy car collector, would go on to own the car for a further 20 years until the final VW enthusiast and custodian purchased the car in 2020 with only 33,850 miles. The mileage now is fully warranted with MOT certificates and records in the history file dating back to the first in 1975 and there is also a hand written log of every MOT and the mileage at the date of test. A file holding specialist invoices for service and maintenance work is present and the most recent service was carried out in August 2026. The car comes with the original handbook and VW Service Record even the VW Diagnosis Punch Card Booklet with the original build sticker! A genuine sales brochure and Heritage Certificate confirming matching numbers completes the history of this outstanding example in every respect.

MOT August 2027, HPI Clear.
