The Lotus Excel highlights one of the last evolutions of the now legendary 'wedged' lineup from the marque. Whilst the Esprit understandably stole a great deal of the limelight back in the day, the Excel is becoming a highly sought after collectors piece in enthusiast circles, and for good reason, blending iconic styling with a thoroughly good driving experience.

This 1985 car is an earlier example, hailing from the transition point between the Eclat and Excel models. Emerging from an extensive 'body off' restoration/overhaul and boasting a + £3000 engine rebuild it stands as a striking example of the breed, ready to be enjoyed throughout these lovely summer months.

Cosmetically the car seems quite well. Finished in a lesser seen dark green colour scheme, its certainly a striking thing. The bodywork itself seems generally OK with a few blemishes and areas of flawing in places - we feel a good mop/polish would work wonders on the paint. The cabin has been upgraded with the later more modern Excel interior and Jaguar XJS seats in the front.

Mechanically the Lotus seems to be in good order. The previous owner undertook a body off restoration themselves and the work does speak for itself as the car presents very nicely mechanically. The engine was sent to Thurston engineering for a circa £3000 refresh and rebuild.

We have taken the car for a short test drive around our farm and the car performed very nicely; starting, running and driving. There is a small crack in the lower passenger side corner of the windscreen.
