FOR SALE
A sporting MGB GT in beautiful condition with 37,701 miles from new.
EQUIPMENT
Two + two seater GT Coupe body with occasional rear seating, opening front and rear quarter lights, fully winding tinted door windows, electric heated rear window, halogen headlamps, twin reversing lamps, twin horns, curved laminated windscreen, chrome waistline, chrome lamp surrounds, polyurethane bumpers, stainless steel sill plates, cigar lighter, clock, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, tachometer, lockable glove box. Accessories: Revotec electric cooling fan with thermal switch probe.
EXTERIOR
This stunning low mileage MGB GT is finished in rare Black, (Code BK1), and this prime example simply gleams brightly. The paint finish looks superb and all body panels are straight and free from damage. Entirely standard even down to the original polyurethane bumpers, trim, badges and period font numberplates. All glass is Sicursiv Climaglass factory fitment and the chrome has a mirror finish. The underside is in perfect structural condition and presents well. A beautifully unspoilt example of this British motoring icon ready for fun outings and classic car shows.
INTERIOR
The original Silver Grey Striped Nylon Fabric is preserved in fantastic order. The material to the seats is fully intact and spotlessly clean with minimal loosening. The matching black vinyl door cards are immaculate. The carpets, headlining and interior trim are in exceptional order and the original gauges and fascia controls all function perfectly with healthy readings. The luggage area is very clean and the easy folding rear bench back offers a large flat loading space, perfect for classic touring. An unspoilt interior entirely commensurate with the low 37,701 miles from new.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The BMC B-Series engine needs no introduction and its time-tested longevity saw it fitted to all MGB’s with exception of the V8 model. This 1798cc four-cylinder OHV unit features twin SU type HIF4 carburettors and SU electric fuel pump to develop 97bhp and 142Nm of torque and has just had a major service. A top speed of 104mph and 0-60mph in 13 seconds are respectable performance figures even today. The beautifully detailed engine bay houses the factory fitted engine with identity plate matching that of the heritage certificate along with vehicle data plates, stickers and PDI scribe to the bonnet underside! The four speed all-synchromesh gearbox with the desirable electronic overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears operates perfectly.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original Rostyle wheels have been subject to expensive professional refurbishment and correctly finished in in silver with black infills. The aluminium MG octagonal logo centre caps are pristine. No expensive has been spared with Premium brand Pirelli Cinturato 165 HR 14 tyres fitted to all five wheels including the spare in June 2026. The servo assisted braking system incorporates 10.75in front discs and 10in rear drums to offer steady and capable straight line stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
A Heritage Certificate issued by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust on the 8th July 2026 confirms that this example was built between the 27th to 30th October 1978 and despatched from Abingdon on the 3rd November 1978 as a GT in Black with Grey trim, overdrive and Rostyle wheels. The VIN and engine number are confirmed to match that of the identity plate and stamping on the car/engine and to the V5 and vehicle history. The destination dealer is listed as Home Sales and date of registration was the 19th January 1979 to the first owner, Mr Papworth. The mileage is verified by comprehensive vehicle history, service stamps/records dating back to 1979 and paper MOT records dating back to the first in 1982. The original Passport to Service booklet is stamped by the selling dealer with subsequent entries relevant to early years. In July 2026 the car was subject to extensive servicing and maintenance including a full service, brake overhaul, electrical service, replacement clutch slave cylinder, new premium brand tyres and brand-new fuel tank and sender unit. The original Leyland cars wallet holds all handbooks, guides and dealership point of sale literature. Further interesting documents include a Used Car Invoice from October 1981 when the car was sold to the second owner Mr Peter Libby for £3,995. Mr Libby went on to be the pampering custodian for the next 31 years! There is also a Midget and MGB sales brochure from the era. As a testament to the condition, in 2024 the car was entered into the Concours judging at the MG Owner’s Club Northern National with the Harrogate MG & Classic Car Club whereby it won 2nd in Class. The trophy remains with the car and there are two sets of keys. The registration number PAA770T with a significant value was issued to the car when new and will remain with the sale. This delightful MGB GT remains cherished, unspoilt and a prime example throughout.
MOT July 2027, HPI Clear.
