Description

motodrome offer this 1968 example of the well-loved Morris Traveller, finished in Old English White with black interior.

‘Rowley’, as the last owner called it, has a wonderful story to tell.

It’s only had 2 owners from new, both friends, and it’s lived in Cardiff all it’s life until now.
The original owner, a Frederick Rowley, bought it new from City Road Motors in Cardiff in 1968, for £980.00. He was a plumber and used it for his business. By 1980, 12 years of use had rather taken it’s toll, and it was stored away in a garage.

The last owner knew his friend had an untouched Traveller sitting in his garage, and in 1990 a deal was struck for him to buy the car for £100.00, on the condition he fully restored it.

The restoration didn’t start for a number of years, but by 2012 Rowley had been restored, including a new ash frame, and in 2012 won ‘Best Car of the Day’ at an MMOC meet.

There is a comprehensive album of photographs (physical not digital) of the strip down and restoration taking place.

Well over a decade later, Rowley still looks pretty sharp,

Odometer reading 88000 miles, and comes with the photo album previously mentioned, and a very large sheaf of bills detailing it’s upkeep since restoration including recent new clutch, fuel pump, starter motor, new brake shoes and cylinders, trunnions etc etc. Also a stack of Morris Minor books and manuals, owners handbook, and a garage wall lubrication chart.

It seems to have been fitted with a reconditioned engine at some point (probably as part of the restoration) but this isn’t documented.

Travellers make excellent practical classics – they’re simple, so easy to drive, and very versatile,

On our own website, you’ll find our usual two videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, both of this particular example, which form part of the description.
