DESCRIPTION:
The R107, where to start? Perhaps that is the start, the fact it will, every single time. Unlike many classic sports cars. Built on a diet of bullet proof engines and mechanicals, with properly water tight hoods, simple ergonomics, comfort and luxury, all the things us Brits seldom managed to roll into one for a top-down driving experience much past the 1950’s! Everyone loves the side profile, the buttery smooth ride and the timeless flat decked lines, this one is one of the rarer 450 variants, with the V8! There aren’t many 450’s out here still, so I’d venture that this low mileage, perfect colour combo car will be one of the best!
Flick the key and she springs into life as a low mileage Mercedes V8 should. Almost silent and silky smooth, drop the selector into drive and you’re ready for one of the best cruisers the world has seen to usher you through more admiring glances than you’d get in the wildest modern supercar, universally loved this really is the quintessential German sports tourer. Even when the sun isn’t shining, you have the option of the factory hardtop in great condition to use the car in winter should you dare!
I remember hearing around 10 years back from the late Quentin Wilson that the SL hasn’t ever lost any of its value from the day it was delivered and will always be a safe purchase if you buy a good car, the same still applies here, an incredible car, with the best colour combination, the robust MB Tex seats and a nice history file to support the low mileage, whether this is a present for a loved one, a car to tick a European tour off your list or another undisputed classic for the collection, you can’t go wrong.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION:
Coming to us from a regular client, who has not only cracking taste in cars, but a rather wonderful collection. We were instructed to give the car a full inspection prior to sale and any issues have been addressed already, so the new owner will know that it is as simple as to turn the key and enjoy this wonderfully presented classic. Beautiful paint and brightwork, an amazing interior and a lovely clean engine bay too, it really wants for nothing to be enjoyed or shown.
The paintwork was given a full two stage machine polish and a layer of wax to protect it, giving the as new shine you see in the photos, it really is as good as they get. Totally rust and rot free underneath, having had the prone areas of the bulkhead & floor pans already renewed and mechanically spot on too. Driving without fault and as smooth as butter on the road, modern cars can’t hold a candle to balloon tyres and proper suspension travel.
The car has its full Mercedes book pack present, along with an abundance of invoices filling the history file. The car comes with the factory matching hard top, along with the original MB hardtop stand, which is on wheels too for the ease of maneuvering it in the garage. An amazing car, with a great spec, in brilliant order, with nice history and all of the original items with it, what’s not to love!
Your chance to cruise off into the sunset in perhaps the all-time #1 sports car of any era.
