Description
Motodrome offer this 1971 Triumph Vitesse 2.0 MKII Saloon with overdrive.
BEING SOLD ON EBAY AS A 10-DAY NO RESERVE AUCTION FROM 10/02/26 8.00PM ITEM NO 227211238175
Warning – this car is being sold as spares or repair as it likely requires a gearbox and/or overdrive unit rebuild or replacement. See below for details.
This one is a very late production Vitesse (actually the 340th from last built) and hence has the later-style combined ignition and steering lock mounted on the steering column rather than the dash
Finished in Damson with white stripe, and black interior.
Fitted with overdrive, period mirrors, inertia reel front seat belts, kenlowe fan, and oil cooler.
Also fitted with Cosmic alloy wheels, although it arrived with us with a set of the original steel rims and hubcaps in the boot, along with a selection of spares, all of which can come with it if you want them.
History wise, the last owner has had it since 2012 and always kept it garaged. The V5 also states the previous owner as having had it since 1996
It comes with an extensive history file going back to the very early 1990’s, when it seems to have undergone a body-off restoration and engine rebuild, followed by a colour change to Damson from the original white. There are a number of old photos in the file of it pre, during, and post restoration.
The odometer reading of 43000 won’t be correct, as it seems to have been fitted with a replacement speedo head in 2016-17, presumably when the original failed showing 1131m, ie ‘round the clock’. The replacement speedo showed 42000 miles, so we think it’s done around 106000 miles in total, and probably around 17000 miles since restoration.
We have a sheaf of old paper MOT’s back to 1983 and 71579 miles, which tallies with the above.
Sadly, on initial test drive, as soon as 10mph was reached, a terrible grating noise came from the back of the gearbox, and didn’t go away during or after a 5 mile round trip to our workshop and back. We suspect the gearbox and or the overdrive have been run without oil and ruined the bearings, and it now sounds like it’s coming apart. It does drive, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend it. We can assist with transporter delivery, but at extra cost and within our T’s and C’s.
Our workshop is fully committed for the next three months at least, so we’re prepared to cut our losses and sell it for whatever it makes on an eBay no-reserve auction
On our own website, you’ll find our usual comprehensive walkaround video, which forms part of the description.
