Description
Motodrome offer this adorable 1982 Land Rover Series 3 88in 2.25 petrol County Station Wagon 6 seater, finished in Russet Brown with Limestone tropical roof.
‘Luxury’ and ‘Series Land Rover’ aren’t words you often see on the same page, but in the early 1980’s Land Rover did make an attempt to make the Series 3 a little more civilised, to compete with 4x4’s from Japan that had lots of kit. AHD 930Y is one of the reasonably few that left the factory as a County Station Wagon. They were only offered in Red or Brown, both with County stripes and decals.
‘County Station Wagon’ spec includes twin Defender-style seats with headrests in the front, 4 individual folding seats in the back, all in cloth, fully trimmed interior including headlining and door cards, and tinted glass. It’s certainly a little quieter trundling down the road than the usual Series models with no interior trim are, but still retains it’s essential rugged Land Rover character.
This one is further fitted with:
Galvanised chassis
Overdrive
Freewheel front hubs
Auxiliary front lights
Inertia reel front seat belts and 4 lap belts
Centre cubby box
Adjustable towpack
Tropical roof
Exmoor trim canvas seat covers to all seats
Dog guard.
This one has just come to us out of 10 year ownership and has a lovely story. The last owner, now in his 80’s and steeped in Land Rovers, was given it as a birthday present by his son 10 years ago, to remind him of his time in the Far East and Africa, where driving a Land Rover was de rigeur. He even drove one across the Namibian desert once on a journey back from Africa.
However he’s now reached the age where he has to slim down his car collection, hence it came to us.
I’ve covered over 100 miles in it just trundling about, and it performs beautifully.
Odometer reading 63000 miles, which may or may not be correct. The 5-bearing engine is, we think, the original, and it’s very quiet and well set up.
We’re told it was restored onto a new galvanised chassis and repainted in the original colour in 2009, and hence it’s now gently patinated.
History-wise we have a good file from the last owner, and in the 10 years he’s had it it’s always been serviced and maintained by a classic Land Rover specialist.
Apart from general servicing, over his ownership it’s had
New bulkhead mounts
New radiator
New starter motor
Overdrive rebuilt with Fairey parts
New sliding window channels
New stainless exhaust
New brake master cylinder
New rear differential. Half shafts and propshafts.
While AHD is now old enough to qualify for MOT exemption, the last owner has kept up the MOT history, and hence it comes with MOT to September 2025 (no advisories) , and it will come with 6 months warranty too.
It’s a really well-sorted example of a rare and desirable Series variant, and looks especially fetching in it’s original colour scheme, in my opinion.
