Description

Motodrome offer this charming 1957 MG Magnette ZB Varitone, finished in dark grey over light grey and with a gorgeous Oxblood interior

The Magnette is a proper 1950’s British sports saloon, and they still feel perky to drive in modern traffic.

Being the desirable Varitone model, it has the larger wraparound rear screen, making the cabin quite light and airy.

Power comes from the venerable BMC B-series engine in 1500cc form with twin carburettors (this one was retrofitted with an MGA-spec high-compression engine back in the 1990’s) driving through a 4-speed manual gearbox. Virtually all the mechanics are shared with the more well-known MG offerings of the 1950’s and 60’s, so parts aren’t a problem.

The interior is a lovely place to be, and it’s clearly been retrimmed at some point as it presents superbly. It’s fitted with modern inertia reel seat belts in the front.

Odometer reading 39000 miles which should probably be taken with a pinch of salt, but it does come with a decent history file. The last owner, a committed MG enthusiast, has had a lot of fettling carried out recently, including, but not limited to, a new clutch, brake overhaul including new cylinder, refurbished dynamo, new starter motor, bumper rechroming, repolished wood, refurbished wheels, and general servicing.

All the above has resulted in a car that both looks the part with light patina, and drives really strongly, with that distinctive MG exhaust note.

On our own website, you'll find our usual 2 videos – a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description.
