Description

Motodrome offer for sale this exceptional, low mileage example one of our favourite 1980’s sports coupes – a 1986 BMW 635 CSi (E24) Automatic, finished in Bronzebeige Metallic with full brown leather trim.

This one has the usual mid-period E24 spec - fitted with full leather, switchable automatic gearbox, BMW sports seats, electric sunroof/windows/mirrors, central locking, trip computer, headlamp wash/wipe, front fogs, and rear spoiler. It was also fitted from new with cruise control, although this no longer functions.
Also fitted with Alpina Softline style alloys and modern Kenwood radio/CD with Bluetooth, USB port, and electric aerial.

The 87-on Highline models introduced more kit, including electric front seats, leather dashtop, headlining, and door tops, and bigger impact bumpers. Personally, I prefer the pre-highline cars such as this one, as the styling with the chrome bumpers is unadulterated and just as Paul Bracq penned it in the late 1970’s, and without a doubt the E24 is one of the finest designs ever to come out of BMW.

It's the driving experience that counts with these, and the Highline models, being heavier, don’t deliver that quite as well in my experience. And a leather headlining isn’t going to make one drive any better.

Body, paint, chrome, and interior are all really good in my opinion. Toolkit is all present and correct.

Apart from it’s superb overall condition, what really sets this one apart is it’s low odometer reading of just 52000 miles. The M30B34 engines are capable of starship mileages - my last daily driver had covered 215000 miles when I sold it and it was still running like a train. This one? Just about run in.

History wise, we have the original service book. Originally supplied by Beechwood Garage in Liverpool to a Captain Angus Murray, it was serviced by them at 1153, 2606, 5174, 9175 and 11669m.
Captain Murray died and the car passed to his wife, who thereafter had it serviced by BMW dealers a further 10 times until 1995 and 25168m.
Then it was serviced a further 10 times by Newhall, independent BMW specialists, up to 32889m in 2002, when the service book runs out of stamps.
However a BMW continuation service book was obtained, and this has a further 3 stamps up to 39589m in 2008.
It then went into long term storage for a number of years.

In 2015, recommissioning work started including the fitting of a new pair of front wings, new front springs, a complete brake rebuild, new battery, and fluids changed.

It then seems to have gone back into storage again, before re-emerging in 2022, and subsequent work includes new brake master cylinder, bosch fuel pump, alternator, front subframe replacement, exhaust, and new tyres, and general servicing in 2023.

It comes with MOT to February 2025 (no advisories) and 6 months warranty on sale.

We have the full dealer pack and 2 sets of keys

It’s not a budget 635, but it’s very hard indeed to find one these days with this sort of mileage and in this sort of condition, so it’s price reflects that

On our own website, you’ll find our usual 2 videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions.
