Description

Motodrome offer this gorgeous 1971 Mercedes S-class (W108) 280S Auto, finished in Red with Ivory MB tex interior.

Compared to the horrors that the British motor industry was churning out in 1971, these uber-cool saloons, the first of the S-Class models, were light years ahead in terms of engineering quality and dynamic ability.

specification wise it has alloy wheels shod with whitewall tyres, automatic transmission, power steering and brakes.
Internally, it’s beautiful period interior, with white steering wheel and red carpets, is complemented by a period-looking stereo that’s been converted to a modern digital system, and rear seat belts.

Unusually, this is an original UK car first registered January 1971, not an import.

Odometer reading 12000 miles which, for the avoidance of doubt we think is actually 112000, it presents beautifully and glides down the road with a real sense of occasion.

We have some recent history and bills, but by no means enough to support the extensive work that must have gone into this example to make it, and keep it, as nice as it is.

MOT and tax exempt, and, whilst at the time of writing, it shows as ULEZ being chargeable, we have a letter from TFL confirming this is incorrect, and that it is ULEZ exempt, as it should be due to it's age

With the 2.8 litre straight six engine it’s no sports car, but it simply wafts along, and feels like it was hewn from a solid block.

It’s absolutely lovely in my opinion

On our own website, you'll find our usual 2 videos – a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description.
