Vanden Plas 1300 – Concours Prize Winner Car

The ADO16 was designed by Alec Issigonis who, following the success of the mini, was looking to design a larger, slightly more sophisticated car. The 1100/1300 was a great success and ‘badge engineering’ meant that there were offerings with Morris, Austin, Wolseley, Riley, Vanden Plas and MG radiator grill. The car that caught the imagination was the Vanden Plas – a top of the range leather and wood creation with twin carbs, uprated engine and, in manual gearbox guise, a car that ticked just about every box.

Milestone Classics have a soft spot for the VDP 1300 – Jamie has owned one for 10 years - and we are absolutely delighted to offer what we believe to be one of the best examples that you could hope to find.

Purchased after a period in storage and restored by a time served engineer as his retirement project this car was the subject of a complete nut and bolt restoration. There are eight albums with hundreds of pictures of one of the most meticulous and high quality projects we have ever seen and the car is a real testimony to his knowledge and skill.

Mechanically the car is on the button driving as good as she looks with excellent engine, manual gearbox and all running gear. The original interior is superb – wood, carpet, headlining, seats have all received attention and structurally the VDP looks like she has just left the factory – only better.

The history file indicates just five owners and contains the original VDP Princess handbook, a selection of old MOT’s, invoices and prize cups from competition wins
