Description

Triumph Stag Nut & Bolt Restoration/Matching Nos

Designed by Michelotti as a luxury sports car the Stag was enthusiastically received when launched in 1970. The Italian styling, V8 engine/performance and Triumph brand should have guaranteed success but a rushed implementation led to the car quickly gaining a poor reputation and sales were disappointing. Over time post production solutions to this lack of development have been applied and the Stag is now recognised as a stylish classic with values rising quickly over recent years

Welcome to the sale of one of the best Triumphs Stags on the market today. This matching numbers car was delivered new on 29th April 1975 to Armstrong Massey Kingston-upon-Hull and purchased by Sir Michael Hollingbery (founder of “Comet” electrical retailer) for his wife, Lady Hollingbery.

The Stag has had just eight owners from new including a period of time on the Isle of Man. In 2009/10 the car returned to the UK mainland and underwent a complete nut & bolt restoration. Work included:-
New Panels:
· Front wings x 2
· Rear wings x 2
· Inner arches x 4
· Door skins x 2
· Floors x 2
· Boot floor
· Sills – Inner & Outer both sides
· Radiator Support
· Bonnet & boot repaired as necessary
· All mechanical components refurbished or replaced
· Wiring stripped, inspected and rebound
· Brakes amd Suspension rebuilt
· Rear Differential rebuilt
The huge history file indicate that the cost of the work was approximately £20,000 and the final result is an absolutely stunning car – the pictures speak for themselves.

The last owner, a retired precision engineer, sent the Stag to Tynwald Triumph in January 2019 and the car underwent a full mechanical refurbishment programme costing in excess of £4,000. A change of plan is his lost and the new owners gain.

Without question this is the best Triumph Stag that Milestone Classics have had the pleasure of marketing. The blue bodywork (body colour underneath) with original black hood/interior is an absolutely stunning combination – in addition the car comes with body colour hardtop. Mechanically, the car drives as good as she looks with brisk performance (manual gearbox) and intoxicating V8 soundtrack

The Triumph Stag is rightly recognised as an iconic 1970’s continental tourer and we expect this stunning car to find a discerning new owner very quickly.
