Finished in Iridium Silver with contrasting red and black nappa leather, this 2005 example has a Full Mercedes-Benz and specialist service history, covered just 29,938 miles in 14 years and as one would expect, drives flawlessly with everything working perfectly as it should do.

With only 700 miles covered in the last two years and having been stored undercover in a heated garage by a long term client of ours, the car has been maintained regardless of cost and remained incredibly low mileage for its age. Originally quoted to sprint you from 0-62 in 4.9 seconds, but with magazines and car reviewers at the time of its launch recording even lower times (Car and Driver magazine reported 0-60mph in just 4.3 seconds!) and onto a limited top speed of 155mph, this compact and brutish roadster is far from a slouch.

The car houses a naturally aspirated 5.4 V8 that produces 355bhp @5750rpm and 376lb ft torque @4000rpm. The engine is without a doubt a monster for such a small car (with the performance figures proving just that), however magically, it’s doesn’t seem to bother the SLK’s chassis and make it feel overly nose heavy at all.

With the power plant coupled to a seven speed 7G-Tronic gearbox with the AMG speedshift and flappy paddles, the SLK55 can quite easily turn from a sedate cruiser to a B road blaster in a heart beat.

Stopping isn’t an issue either. With 340mm vented and drilled discs up front being clamped by six pot callipers and 330mm variants on the rear using a four pot setup, the 55 was definitely designed to reign in the power and get it stopped when required to.
