Back in the days when Q cars were subtle, Mercedes shoehorned the quad cam V8 into the W124 E series saloon and created what has become one of the most legendary sporting saloons ever made.

Collaborating with Porsche to hand-build all of the cars for them, all 500E and E500 variants were assembled at Porsche's Rossle-Bau plant in Zuffenhausen, with each car taking 18 days to build.

The exterior gave away very few indications that this was in fact a super saloon, unlike the Lotus Carlton, E34 Alpina and M5 variants of the same era.

With only some subtly flared arches, a lower ride height and those 17" Evo II alloys pinched from the 190, the average person on the street would be pushed to tell this indeed packed 322bhp, 480 NM of torque, had a 0-62 mph time of just 6.1 seconds and went on to a top speed of 161.6 mph. Impressive figures even by today's standards.

This E500 limited was supplied new by the Mercedes dealer in Saarbrucken Germany to a lady owner on the 1st September 1994, where it remained in her custody for many years until finally passing it onto her son.

When ordering the E500 Limited, the lady did so to a high specification that included electric heated memory seats and steering column, electric sunroof, auxiliary heating, an electric rear blind, air conditioning, Mercedes Exquisit radio CD system and the ebony wood finish over and above the standard equipment.

During their joint ownership, the car was maintained by the Mercedes-Benz main dealer in Sulzbach, Autohaus Birkelbach. The car was serviced here four times, bar one service where it returned back to the supplying dealer in Saarbrucken in 2001.

The car comes with a folder jam packed with all of the invoices from day one and any supporting paperwork for its time in both Germany and here in the UK for any works carried out.

This stunning E500 Limited also comes complete with the original book packs and most importantly the original service history book that has 12 stamps in total present in it. For images of all the history and supporting paperwork please get in touch.

In 2004 at 74,719 km the car was purchased by its first English owner, a keen Mercedes enthusiast who had looked at many examples before deciding this was the best example out there.

As soon as the car landed on English soil it was taken to Mercedes-Benz Epsom for a full check over and a major service. It was at this point that the headlamps were changed to right hand drive units and the speedo replaced for a brand new one that read in miles per hour.

All of this work is fully documented in the service history book with supporting paperwork/invoices and most importantly, it still has the original kilometre speedo present too. The MPH speedo today reads 16,404 miles and is the total mileage the car has covered over the last 15 years.

Therefore the total mileage of the car equates to just 63,103 miles when combining its mileage here in the UK and the original speedometer that was in kms.

Regarding the car's ownership in the UK, we know that the first gentleman purchased the car in 2004 and he kept hold of the car until 1st May 2008 after which he sold it to a Mr Richards.

Mr Richards had the car for just over two years before selling it to a Mr Canepa in July 2010, however a gentleman's agreement must have been put in place, because in November 2016 Mr Richards purchased the car back from Mr Canepa.

Any independent inspection is welcomed and all cars on sale by Horsepower Hangar are HPi checked and mechanically inspected, so you can buy with confidence from a long established specialist.
