One of a diminishing number of 3.0L RHD SC Targa`s up for sale in the UK

A good example of this model SOLD at Silverstone Auctioneers for £73,700 (23/05/2020) and a “Project” coupe example sold last month at a well-known online auction for £36,250…!!!

This increasingly rare RHD 1981 Porsche 911 3.0 SC Targa is one of a diminishing few left between our shores – if not the world….!!!

Investors are sussing on to these opportunities, hence prices are on a very steep incline and current prices of these 3.0 SC models are anywhere between £35,000+ going all the way up to £90,000+ for good quality examples. Top examples would exceed £100,000…!!!

For those not in the know here`s a brief history of these earlier 3.0 SC beautiful cars.

“In 1978, Porsche introduced their latest development of the 911, christened the '911 SC', with the SC standing for Super Carrera. Powered by a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and a five-speed, 915 transmission, power output initially was 180bhp, subsequently 188bhp, and finally, in 1981, it was increased to a heady 204bhp. 1979 was the year that Porsche had envisioned that their new 928 would replace the 911 (we are still waiting for that to happen), however, 911 sales remained so strong that Porsche revised its strategy and decided to inject new life into their core model.”

According to the wife of the previous custodian, this particular vehicle was to be restored back to its former glory by her late husband, but very sadly he passed away before he got a chance to really get stuck into it. It`s for you to now take over the mantle and do him (and the car) proud.

On getting her back to the farm we set about trying to get her started. This amounted to no more than a jump pack, some fresh fuel, and a hammer to the fuel pump. To our surprise, she roared back into life with very little effort and didn`t sound too bad at all. Obviously not perfect, and clearly requiring some recommissioning and tuning, but sounding OK, nevertheless.

In my opinion, this car is perfect for a pre-impact bumper retrofit. I say this as the 2 front wings will clearly need replacing and the bonnet is not too clever either. The front bumper is also heavily flawed so why not just get rid of them all and upgrade them to the cool and stylish early 70`s look and add bundles to the value of this car in the process. This done well could easily make this car`s value exceed £70,000+…!!! If you don`t believe me, please feel free to go and do your own research as I`ve seen such cars `sold` for well over £100,000…!!!

As to save on any ambiguous questions/answers I am just selling this car as requiring a full restoration and anything less is to your advantage. As a heads-up, and in addition to what has already been described, the underside surprisingly all looks in rather solid condition. Likewise, most of the rear end. The bottom of the driver`s side B post has some corrosion and there are probably various other little areas around the body that will also require some attention.

The interior seats (front and back) are in very good condition. The floor pans look good. There are no floor carpets, and the Targa headlining has deteriorated.

So, in summary, this is a perfect opportunity for someone to buy one of these increasingly rare and wonderful little classic cars at what can only be described as a once-in-a-lifetime ridiculously low price, especially considering top cars are currently being advertised for as much as £70.000+…!!!
