The luxurious and unique original 3000 Mark 3 BJ8 trim with embossed "welded" patterns and grey piping was completely reupholstered during the ground up restoration of 2010. New deep pile carpets with Healey branded overmats were fitted and are in exceptional order. The rich walnut trim dash is unmarked and Le Mans wood rim steering wheel is in excellent order dressed with the original Austin Healey centre boss. All original Smiths gauges work perfectly as they were intended and have crystal clear glass showing no adverse signs of ageing or deterioration... Stunning

Exterior

Finished in Duotone British Racing Green and Old English White. The bodywork and chassis were subject to an extensive ground up restoration by Rugby Classic Motor Garages, and completed November 2010. The complete body and chassis bare metal stripped, sanded/ painted to perfection giving a uniformed deep gloss shine. It's clear to see from the pictures that it's still stunning today which is testament to the outstanding quality of workmanship carried out a little over 10 years ago. The panel fit and gaps are excellent throughout, all external trims, bumpers, door handles etc. have been restored or replaced using quality parts. The original Triplex glass is in exceptional order, new folding black vinyl roof and mechanism.

The underside of the car has been professionally and sympathetically clear waxoyled including inside the chassis and box sections, inner wheel arches and boot area.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

The 5 chrome 72 spoke wire wheels and chrome spinners are in exceptional order. All matching quality Michelin XAS165/ 80 HR15 Radial tyres have plenty of tread remaining.

The original Power Assisted Girling Hydraulic disc front brake system and rear drums have been fully restored with all new brake lines, EBC Green Stuff Pads, uprated servo and refurbished and painted calipers. Needless to say braking is very strongly and perfectly balanced.

Engine & Transmission

The fully detailed engine bay houses the incredible original and matching numbers 2912cc OHV 6-cyllinder inline engine, two semi-downdraught S. U. HD8 carburettors with pancake air filters. Horsepower on this final edition 'Big' Healey was increased to 150 BHP at 5250 RPM, maximum torque 173 lb. ft at 3000 RPM, the engine has covered a mere 4850 miles in the last 10 years.

She runs perfectly with no overheating issues and starts perfectly on the button from hot or cold, the sound is tremendous through the full stainless steel exhaust system. The clutch is light and progressive in operation, the manual 4 speed gearbox with overdrive offers a positive and precise gear change having synchromesh on top 3 gears, overdrive comes in and out quickly and smoothly... 0-60mph in 9. 8 seconds, a joy to drive and what a sound track.

This stunning matching numbers Austin Healey 3000 is supplied with a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate. Built 2-16th May 1966 in British Racing Green with Black Interior and registered 20th May 1966. Originally LHD exported to Philadelphia USA and stayed there until returning back to the UK in 2004 where it remained as part of a private car collection.

This Healey was treated to a ground up professional restoration in its original colours by Rugby Classic Motor Garages, Works carried out included extensive body, interior and mechanical restoration, converted to righthand drive all completed November 2010.

The documented history file contains further expenditure over the last 10 years with detailed invoices since restoration totalling circa £13k for servicing, repairs and upgrades by various professional classic car companies.

More Details

The 'Big' Healey enjoyed steady development, with the four-cylinder cars giving way to the 100-Six of 1956 which was replaced by the first of the 3000's in 1959. The final edition was the 3000 MKIII which was launched in October 1963 and mildly upgraded (Phase 2) in May 1964, the most powerful and luxurious of all the derivatives. Production ceased at the end of 1967 after 42, 926 had been made of which 17, 712 were MKIII's.
