Description

The campervan presents well and benefits from a previous restoration many years ago that included a bare-metal respray and a period-correct custom interior. Originally from California, it is remarkably free of rust underneath having been imported to the UK in 2010 and kept in a dry garage since.

The camper has been in storage for a number of years and the interior remains in outstanding condition. The cooker and sink still look factory fresh.

Recent recommissioning in my workshop includes a new clutch, new rear brakes, new brake servo, repaired brake balancer valve and new brake pressure switches. The gear change bushes have been renewed. Some of the wiring has been renewed behind the dashboard and underneath, and a new horn and speedo drive have been fitted.

The odometer shows just over 30,000 miles; considering the lack of rust underneath and the general condition of the camper, that might well be correct. The owner was informed that a previous garage fitted a brand new engine so mechanical wear on that component will be minimal.

The steering box has been adjusted and the tyres have plenty of tread on them. I changed the oil recently and fitted a new fuel pump, fuel pump actuator rod and a set of spark plugs. I also replaced some of the vacuum hoses to the servo and a vacuum non-return valve. A new electrical control box was fitted and the fan belt adjusted. Several missing sections of air hoses and air trunking were replaced with new clips. A compression test showed excellent compression of around 130 psi in all cylinders and an oil-pressure test showed 30 psi at idle rising to 60 psi at 3000 rpm.

The 1600 cc engine starts first time and settles to a good idle. The engine pulls well through all the gears and the van hums along very nicely.

The camper is ideal for summer touring as it is, or could be the basis for your own bespoke vehicle.

Realistically priced at £15,950.
