The previous keeper of this rare and beautiful looking Ferrari 400 GT had all good intentions of restoring her back to her once former glory… one day…!!! Unfortunately that day just never came hence she was placed back into his storage unit a good few years ago and she has never seen the light of day since, until we rescued her of course…
OK, so this car has sat idle in a garage for many a year but on the plus side I am led to believe that this car is a genuine 1977 factory supplied RHD Ferrari 400 GT totally ripe and ready for refurbishment.
From what I can see the car looks totally complete but there may be smaller items missing but nothing obvious comes to mind or stands out.
For those that are not in the know about these rare and symbolic Ferrari models, below is a brief history to whet your appetite.
This model was the first in the history of Ferrari to come from the factory with an optional 3 speed automatic transmission. This car is one of those original auto models.
The 400 GT was the last ever Ferrari V12 with a front mounted carburettor engine installed.
The later (and arguably less desirable) 400i fuel injected models had a lower performance of just 310 PS compared to 325 PS of the GT.
The Ferrari 400 family was in production for approximately 16+ years. The longest production run of any Ferrari.
Once the stray sheep of the Ferrari world these 400 GT models are now becoming increasingly desirable and being sussed upon and snapped up by prudent investors safe in the knowledge that currently top examples are regularly being advertised @ £120,000+…!!! In fact, nearly any up and running 400 GT on the market, in any condition, is seemingly a minimum of around £50,000+…!!! On a well-known UK classic car site there is currently a very early model being advertised @ £17,000 that quite literally just consists of a rolling chassis. Yes, I said “rolling chassis”…!!! This car has no body, no panels, no engine, no interior, no lights, no bumpers, and wait for it…. No paperwork…!!!
If all the above is a true guide of where prices are at the moment then surely this example, being seemingly a complete car. Must be worth in the region of 30k+ even requiring restoration…?!?!??!!!
To save on any ambiguous questions/answers I am just selling this rare and beautiful classic vehicle as requiring a full restoration. I say this as to some this would be a relatively easy task and to others this would need the assistance of others. Either way, this is how she is being sold so please feel free to come and view/examine/research everything you need to know beforehand so you are totally happy and comfortable with your upcoming future project as and when you come to collect as none of this will be catered for after you`ve won the auction unless paid for in full… As a heads-up the engine is seemingly complete but we haven`t (and won`t) try to start it. It`s a Ferrari at the end of the day…
So, with concours examples now comfortably over the 100k+ bracket I strongly believe this original factory RHD example is the cheapest like-for-like on the market. Surely this must be the perfect example to restore for maximum enjoyment and financial gain (if this is indeed your aim).
This all makes for a wonderful opportunity to rebuild one of these beautiful, timeless and legendary classics back to your very own specification, standard and satisfaction, safe in the knowledge you can either cash in on your investment for a nice healthy return or just have many a fun-filled sunny day jaunts in the summer months. Or, if you wish – Both…!!!
So in summary this is a rare Ferrari 400 GT auto that has been in storage and unused by its previous owners for quite some time now but still seems to be moreorless all there, and with the very expensive V12 engine seemingly all there you`re off to a good starting point, but for clarity, she is being sold as a non-runner requiring restoration.
As always, please bid with confidence as we are honest people who would never wilfully mislead anyone just to achieve a sale. This said, all our cars are sold `as seen` so please feel free to come and view/examine `beforehand` to make sure you will be totally happy with your purchase once bought.
I am very keen to sell hence I have set a very realistic and easily achievable reserve especially considering their increasing values and that average condition vehicles are selling for £50,000+…
As with all our cars, due to long term storage I would always strongly suggest a good going over/service/tune-up/recommissioning of all vulnerable and moving parts before returning them back to the open roads as they have not normally been used for some time and it would just be darn right silly not to on a modern car let alone a classic of a bygone era.
All our cars are sold `as seen` so please feel free to request a viewing `beforehand` to make sure you will be totally happy with your purchase once bought.
Although viewings are always welcomed (and encouraged) on all our vehicles we do understand that this may not always be possible, especially in the present climate, hence with this in mind please feel free to ask as many questions as you feel necessary to satisfy yourself as to what you are bidding on and potentially purchasing. A walk-around video can always be made available to any `serious` potential bidder but this will only be accommodated after a satisfactory `telephone` conversation/request on the number provided…
I hope I have covered most things but please feel free to ask as many questions as you like as one would expect this with a rare car like this.
Thank you for looking
PLEASE NOTE:
According to the previous owner all the above is accurate but if certain details are important to you then please verify these details for yourself `before` placing a bid as this is not an option once purchased and must be taken as hearsay as opposed to factual for the purpose of this sale.
