If you know about your Lotus classics then you will already be familiar with the Elite, Eclat and Excel trio that combined contributed to the Lotus flag in the 70`s, 80`s and 90`s. This being one of the last in that clan, which by most was considered the most desirable no doubt due to their collaboration with Toyota and use of their more reliable parts. I am led to believe there were no more than approximately 2200 Excel SE models made and according to DVLA records there appears to only be approximately 137 left on our roads.

This particular example was owned by a knowledgeable enthusiast and as such he had only just completed a full engine rebuild and remap. The paperwork will show invoices amounting to a 4-figure sum for engine parts bought as recently as December last year.

In addition to the above he also installed a fully mappable plug-in ignition system which I`m sure carried a premium of its own.

The bodywork appears all OK and her metallic blue livery has been wrapped in a more menacing matt black.
The engine has been fully rebuilt and has just completed a 100-mile running-in @ 50 mph run. With this short running-in process completed she will now need another going over to deal with all those loosen bolts, oil leaks and engine tapping noises which are all so common after an engine rebuild maiden run.

So in summary this is a perfect opportunity for someone to buy one of these increasingly rare and wonderful little classic cars at what can only be described as an opportunistically low price, especially considering the increasingly high prices top examples are being advertised for, some as high as 20k.

I would say this is a one-off opportunity to buy one at this price so please don`t miss out by pondering – life`s way too short...:-)

The V5 is on its way and should be with me soon but if you can`t wait I will deduct the £25 cost of application for a new one.
