1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda
Ex Jack Sears, RHD, 110K Miles, Rebuilt Engine, Automatic, Convertible

A beautiful Mercedes 280SL Convertible ‘Pagoda’, purchased as a one owner car by Jack Sears from Stuart Graham as a gift for his wife Cicely in 1987, the car has been cherished by the Sears family to this day. Presented in Astral Silver with the original black leather interior and stunning brightwork the car presents very well indeed. The car was actually repainted to a good standard just before it was purchased in 1987, this paint job is now just starting to show some wear and would benefit from some attention in places. There is however no evidence of corrosion and the car remains structurally and mechanically sound. The engine was also completely rebuilt from top to bottom in the late1980’s by German car specialists H.A Lock Motor Engineers and is still running beautifully, producing good oil pressure and running very smoothly. The brakes are fantastic, pulling the car up straight and the steering is sharp and precise as you would expect. The factory hard top is present although the soft top will require refurbishing. The automatic gearbox is working as it should and the car starts on the button. There is a history folder present including the sales invoice to Jack Sears, service invoices, original owners manual and old MOT’s. The original spare wheel and tool kit are also present. Overall the car is an absolute joy to drive and is now ready for a new custodian. These SL models were amongst the best-loved sports-tourers of their day and remain highly sought after by collectors, so to find one with the fantastic provenance as this car has is a real delight and a rare opportunity not to be missed. With some RHD examples such as this fetching in excess of £100K this car represents great value offered at £75,000.
