Interior & Equipment

Perfect... The original seats were re-upholstered by a specialist restorer at a cost of £900 in black leather April 2016. The original door cards, dashboard, steering wheel are all in exceptional order. All clocks, gauges and electrics work as they were intended. All switches work as they should as does the heater. New black deep pile carpets fitted throughout along with correct MG rubber over mats.

Exterior

The original body shell was completely stripped during 2016 and subject to a full inside and out restoration in the original colour of Tahiti Blue (Code BLVC 65). The paint finish and bodywork is still outstanding today with no rust or blemishes, factory panel fit, perfect shut lines and gaps, the history file contains photographic evidence of the car during the restoration. The underside is solid throughout and fully undersealed.

The bright work is all original and in excellent order. The original black rubber bumpers are perfect throughout with no disfiguration or scuffs. The black hood is perfect, fit snuggly and screens all very clear.

Wheels Tyres & Brakes

The original 5J x 14 Rostyle steel painted wheels have been fully restored and new chrome wheel trims fitted. Sitting on new all matching Uniroyal Rain Expert 3 175/80 R14 tyres.

The full brake system was completely overhauled in 2016 needless to say the braking power is excellent. Steering is precise and responsive.

Engine

The 1.8 litre B-Series o.h.v. straight four-cylinder 1798cc engine is superb. The head has been replaced with an unleaded unit, all fuel lines and pump replaced. The engine was removed 2000 miles ago for inspection and all relevant work completed. Needless to say she responds superbly, pulls strong in every gear, starts easily hot or cold, perfect oil pressure and idles faultlessly. Overdrive in 3rd and 4th gears which operates in and out with ease, the gearbox and clutch are light and precise. A Full major serviced with all fluids changed has been carried out less than 600 miles ago... Magical and such fun to drive.

Summary

The history file is packed with hundreds of invoices and receipts for repairs and servicing dating back to the mid 1980's which supports the mileage and incredible passion that has gone into this MGB Roadster. There are 25 past MOT certificates dating back to 1986, a beautiful hand written log of service work carried out by date and mileage dating back to the 1990's, copy ownership records, original British Leyland keys and workshop manuals etc.

Today the MGB roadster remains one of the UK’s favourite classic cars. This is an excellent opportunity to own a lovely UK supplied MGB Roadster with low long term ownership and incredible documented history file. More Details

The MGB is a classic British roadster that was originally introduced in 1962. By 1967, changes were incorporated that lead to the designation of the MGB Mk II (officially the 1968 model year). This model continued in production until August 1971, and was then superseded by the MGB roadster Mk III in October 1971.

Like the Mk I and Mk II MGB, the Mk III is a two-door roadster powered by a front-mounted, rear-wheel drive 1798cc B Series engine. The Mark III benefitted from a revised interior, with centre console now utilising rocker switches and with two air vents in the middle. An armrest was added between the front seats.

In October 1972, the MGB Mk III roadster was fitted with a black plastic cross-mesh grille with a wide chrome surround (now incorporating the MG badge) and vertical centre chrome bar. The steering wheel was redesigned, and padded armrests replaced the door pull straps.

In October 1974, the model was given a visual redesign to meet US impact regulations. Large black urethane bumpers were added on front and rear with front indicators incorporated into the ‘rubber bumper’. The nose was redesigned, the ride height of the car increased, and overdrive became standard.

In August 1976, the fascia was covered in grey crackle (rather than black),the steering wheel was redesigned to include an ‘H’ pattern (replacing three spokes),the overdrive switch moved to the gear lever from the column stalk, full carpets were included, the fabric upholstery gained stripes, and suspension and steering was revised. In August 1977, door mirrors were repositioned.
