Description

Sourced and shipped over from the USA in December 2014 we're delighted to offer this exceptional Mustang Fastback. Purchased from us previously, the current owner has decided to downsize his collection and naturally has asked us to help him find a new home for this very special classic. An original Dearborn built factory car, manufactured on the 27th April 1966 and delivered new through the St Louis Ford dealership franchise. A rare 4 speed manual car, this Mustang has been subject to a complete nut and bolt restoration with the focus being on creating an 'as new' Mustang finished as per her original factory specification.

Body / Exterior - Completely stripped to bare metal and where necessary remedial repairs made. There is no evidence of any welding to the frame, patches of any description and all panel gaps are correct. All rubbers have been replaced and all exterior chrome, bumpers, lenses etc are ‘as new’, with a real focus on every detail, so you'll even find the correct under-hood manufacturer's vinyl decals. The car has naturally received a 'glass out' repaint, finished to an exceptional standard, her original Sauterne Gold metallic body now looks completely amazing with the exterior having the added extra of optional driver & passenger side mirrors. The underside of the car is equally spectacular, I would describe it 'as new’, with all new nuts & bolts, gleaming powder coating & painting of components, all new brake & fuel lines…you could quite easily eat your dinner from the underside and we will happily provide additional photos or a ramp inspection for those seriously interested parties.

Interior - The stunning original specification of Parchment and Ivory Gold interior looks spectacular and the attention to detail is evident when looking at any of the photographs. The dash / steering wheel are free from any cracks as are all the interior moldings, including her optional full length centre console. She is fitted with seatbelts front and rear and all interior chrome handles, winders etc are new, the original specification ‘loop’ pile carpet has been replaced, all heater controls have been replaced and the only change from original specification is the addition of a modern ‘Retro Sound’ Hermosa AM/FM radio (operating via a retractable electric aerial) with Bluetooth / MP3 connectivity which will even enable hands-free phone calls! The trunk / boot again is finished like new with her correct for ‘65/66 plaid trunk mat.

Mechanical - Originally built as C-Code car the Mustang features the optional V8 289 engine and also comes with the rare and sought after 4 speed ‘toploader’ transmission. All mechanical components have been either been rebuilt or replaced. The V8 289 Motor looks ‘crate’ fresh and has been subject to a complete rebuild. The gearbox / clutch is smooth to operate and the rear axle is super quiet. Still very much ‘like new’ the car has done very few miles and she starts easily with the intoxicating V8 rumble coming from her twin exhausts. Open the throttle and the body rocks showing that there’s plenty of torque to come from the V8 motor, but with the car having completed so few miles since the rebuild, I would say she is still being ‘run-in’. It is evident that all new suspension bushes, shock-absorbers have been fitted along with a complete new exhaust system to ‘original’ specification. The optional 14” steel styled wheels are ‘as new’, completely blemish free and fitted with a matched set of new tires. In her original C-Code specification, the car was built using the factory 2-barrel carburettor but in the interest of improved running, and a 'tweak' in performance we have since fitted a Weiand Manifold, Edelbrock 4-barrel carburettor, Petronix ignition system and improved engine cooling with an uprated aluminium radiator. Finishing off the list of mechanical upgrades, the car also benefits from a 'Flaming River' steering box and for improved braking the system has now been converted to front disc brakes.

With her subtle upgrades and finished to a spectacular level of detail we feel, one word springs to mind....'WOW!” An absolute show-stopper, so much so that life long Mustang fan and expert Quentin Wilson (ex Top Gear) and Jonny Smithn (5th Gear) along with ERS Insurance services used the car for a promo video whilst she was displayed at the prestigious London Classic Car Show. To replicate such a build could cost in excess of £100k and with little use since her stunning restoration we feel this iconic American classic must be one of the finest examples available in Europe.
