The large instrument cluster houses the Smiths gauges which all function perfectly as does the fresh air heater. The boot area is impressive with gleaming gloss black painted twin tanks synonymous with the Cooper S and new carpeted boot floor... Stunning

Exterior

This Morris Mini Cooper S MKII sits perfectly and finished in its original Island Blue with the roof in Old English White the paint work completed in 2013 is seriously impressive with a deep glossy uniformed flawless finish. All the chrome detailing has a mirror finish and is immaculate throughout. The sliding side windows, glass and lenses are perfect in every detail. The underside of the car is equally immaculate, unmarked, detailed and still as it left the restorers in 2013… An impressive show piece.

Wheels Tyres & Brakes

Fully restored pressed 4.5 inch Cooper ‘S’ steel wheels with chrome hub caps are finished in factory silver with new all matching Yokohama AD08 165/70 10 tyres. New 7.5 inch front discs and calipers, rear drums all as per the ‘S’ specification.

Engine & Transmission

The original matching numbers engine was fully rebuilt by Aston Martin Specialists Headshop (UK) of Warrington in October 2013 and has only covered a mere 485 miles since. The water cooled in-line overhead-valve four-cylinder engine mounted transversely has a cubic capacity of 1275cc and produces 75bhp. The twin S.U carburettors with separate pancake air cleaners give a wonderful induction note and combined with the full stainless exhaust the sound is infectious. The original four-speed close ratio gearbox and light clutch operate with ease, such fun to drive. The engine bay is completely detailed.

More Details

Shortly after the Mini was on the market, race car builder John Cooper realized the potential of the little car in competition. The 848cc engine from the Morris Mini-Minor was given a longer stroke, increasing displacement to 997cc. A pair of SU carburettors helped increase power from 34 to 55 horsepower. Rounding out the performance package was a close-ratio gearbox and front disc brakes.

The Austin Mini Cooper and Morris Mini Cooper debuted in September 1961. To meet homologation rules for Group 2 rally racing, one thousand units of the original Mini Cooper were produced. The 997cc engine was eventually replaced by a shorter stroke 998cc version in 1964.

Mini Cooper S - A more powerful Mini Cooper was offered in 1963. The new model "S" featured a 1071cc engine with a larger 70.61mm bore. Large servo-assisted disc brakes were added. 4,030 original Cooper S models were produced and sold until the model was updated in August 1964.

Cooper also produced two other S models specifically for circuit racing in the under 1000cc and under 1300cc classes. Theses engines had displacements of 970cc and a 1275cc, respectively. The smaller-engine model was not well received, and only 963 were built when the model was discontinued in 1965. The 1275cc Cooper S model continued in production until 1971.
