Description

The Classic Car Company is delighted to present this 1972 Citroen DS20 with a 1985cc engine. This three owner car shows 128,413 km on the odometer (equivalent to 79,792 miles),and is painted in Orient Blue finished with blue velour upholstery and grey vinyl headlining. The car comes with paperwork including the original French Carte Grise, Citroen handbook, a letter from the original French owner to the first UK owner, full service history from Citroen specialists in France and Adrian Sparrow Citroen & Citroen Classics in the UK, as well as 20 UK MOT certificates.

The most recent work carried out on the car:
- Seals, O-rings and gaskets replaced on hydraulic system, lines blown out
- New rear control arms
- Aluminium window side trims (B and C pillar)
- New gearbox gaskets
- New head gaskets
- Respray on NS rear quarter and OS front bumper
- Fully detailed

Mechanically, the car is in excellent condition. The hydropneumatic air suspension raises, self-levels, and lowers smoothly as expected, with no leaks or nasty sounds. The car starts easily, and the engine is strong with no misfires, knocks or rattles. The clutch is smooth with no juddering or slipping, and all gears work correctly. The brakes are sharp and stop the car very well. The alternator could do with replacing as the current alternator is the original OEM part (although it has had a rebuild and still works as it should).
Structurally the car is in good shape – there is some corrosion on the near side B pillar where it meets the sill, and on the bottom of the driver’s door. Sills and wheel arches are ok, and the boot floor shows no signs of rust. The jacking points are solid.

The paint and bodywork are in good enough shape but show a number of small dings, dents, chips and scratches. There is some bubbling paintwork, orange peel on the left front bumper and rear left quarter, and patina on the chrome trim. Some of the chrome trim on the doors is slightly warped. The roof has numerous small cracks in the paintwork. The bonnet and front wings appear to be a slightly lighter shade of blue than the rest of the car, indicating a respray.

The interior is in good condition. The detail gave the trim, dashboard, seats and floor mats a refreshed look. The seat foam is soft and plush and all controls and buttons work as they should. However, it is not perfect, with a couple of black marks in the headlining, scuffs and scratches on the doors, small rips in vinyl and faded door handles.

Included with the car is the history mentioned above, the spare wheel, a spare bottle of green hydraulic fluid, and the tool kit. Although not pictured, the rear Citroen badge is present with the car – it was removed for the detail.

In its current form, this DS is certainly no garage queen, but would make the perfect daily classic driver, slightly bruised but guaranteed to turn heads. Otherwise, the car would make a fantastic light recommissioning project, to bring this icon of engineering and design back to its former glory.
