Description

This gorgeous 1970 Porsche 911E has recently been treated to a full body and mechanical restoration. The bodyshell was stripped back to bare metal and resprayed in the correct and original Light Ivory paint, which is the perfect colour for 911s of this era. The 2.2-litre engine has been fully rebuilt by well known Porsche specialists Strasse. The interior has also been restored, with the seats retrimmed in the original black leatherette with basketweave inlay, and new carpets fitted. The period radio has cleverly been updated with Bluetooth phone connectivity. The entire car is in gorgeous condition and ready to enjoy.

What is particularly fascinating and rare about this Porsche is its Sportomatic gearbox. This clever system was ahead of its time and allows clutchless gear changes with a conventional manual gearbox. As soon as you touch the gearstick to change gear, the clutch magically disengages without the need to press a pedal. If you are unable or unwilling to use a clutch pedal, then this is a novel and ideal solution. Please click here for a good description of Sportomatic.

It is believed that only 192 Sportomatic 911s were imported into the UK between 1968 and 1973. Whether you have a need for clutchless transmission, are a Porsche collector, or are just looking for something a bit different, then this 911E is worthy of your attention. Interestingly, although the Sportomatic gives a more relaxed drive than a manual, the system was used in the Porsche 911R Sportomatic which ran to victory in the Marathan da la Route (84 Hours of Nurburgring) in 1967!

We do realise, though, that Sportomatic is not to everyone’s taste. So, if you would prefer a conventional gearbox we would be happy to convert the transmission for you. The Sportomatic parts could be kept with the car so it could, in the future, be reinstated.

The left-hand drive Porsche was originally delivered to the USA in 1970 and was registered in the UK in 2017.

Unless otherwise stated, all our cars are put through a thorough independent mechanical inspection and any faults found are rectified before sale. They are also issued with 12 months’ MoT (without any advisories) and a six-month warranty underwritten by us. Part exchange and finance available.
